On October 9th Independent artist Amy Collado will unveil her debut exhibition “Born Too Late: A Photographic Tribute to NYC’s New Golden Era” - featuring the Brooklyn Four Crew & Friends. #BornTooLate will be exhibited at a former bodega in Alphabet City left soggy & vacant after Sandy that is now transformed into a place of the community dubbed Specials on C. Using the family album, this photographic essay charmingly illustrates the inner city culture of 1970’s & 1980’s New York City spanning over the course of 5 years.
With the “Rise of the Creative” in full effect, we see and hear a unique voice, poking through, weaving past and current cultures into a visual textbook, shedding light on the often overlooked building blocks of our culture, the youth. Amy Collado is a Brooklyn native who grew up surrounded by family, as one integral part of a bigger whole. To combat the loss of interpersonal communication, she curates an exhibit focused on the history of her family and upbringing in order to shed light on our similarities as ONE HUMAN race.
“This is my story, your story. Each of us holds a piece to the bigger picture and we often forget that the bigger picture goes beyond the person you see when you look in the mirror. Sometimes you have to look back to truly appreciate the world around you now.”
Come celebrate this era featuring original photographs taken from 1978 to 1983 including an unveiling of a unique work by Brian Kirhagis and a special jewelry presentation by Botanica NY in response to this unforgettable time.
